Kind of weird to think that Voyager 1 is 25 billion km away, transmits with about 22 watts of RF power, and we can still hear & decode it here it on Earth.

Video of reflow soldering with an MHP50 hotplate. Works pretty well for small boards. I was previously using a hot air gun but it would blow the components around. Can also more accurately follow the manufacturer reflow specs.

@whitequark @azonenberg @niconiconi I have seen something like this in commercial radio gear, which may have great baseline performance and build, but have very mid he support for digital waveform compared to open source software implementations. That said, it is reflected in pricing, e.g: $900 for consumer hw + OSS; $3000 for commercial hw; $30k for military hw.

I can highly recommend getting a ferrule crimper for connecting wires to these kinds of terminals.

@va3db @n8dmt in theory we are empowered (in the US at least) to identify emissions which impact us and work with the offender, but I wonder if that is a productive use of time. We are doing the FCC's job, and they should pay us for that.

David Chisnall (*Now with 50% more sarcasm!*)

We have released 1.0 of the #CHERIoT specification! The architecture has been unchanged for almost a year and has been implemented in two open-source cores. We (SCI) are getting back our first CHERIoT silicon from the fab soon and will be moving to mass production net year (I can't talk about what other people are doing with CHERIoT).

@va3db @n8dmt FWIW, I have had good RF experiences with the Samlex units made for radios, and MeanWell modular units for use inside project boxes.

@ftg No. This will eventually fail and fall off, probably while driving down the highway.

@mossmann very cool: measuring < 0.01 Hz changes in an 60 kHz signal from Colorado while flying in a passenger jet is impressive.

@K4NE It's the Andonstar AD246S-M, which was recommended to me by another microwaver. Has HDMI out, and a smaller installed screen, which is probably right for me.
