#banglejs2 can support #GPS, #Beidou, #Glonass, and I was able to get a fix using Beidou only. More toys to play with, I guess. Sources are here: https://github.com/espruino/BangleApps/pull/3674

I'd like watch to tell me "if you stay here, you'll get GNSS fix in 2 minutes". Is there a way to estimate that from satellite positions and signal strengths? Perhaps someone has useful research paper?

@dcz There is coreboot for Thinkpad X60 and X220, IIRC, but not newer generations. I'm not saying impossible. But it is definitely not easy. Maybe we can all agree than MNT Reform is the next cool machine, and focus on that?

@dcz This would be longer discussion. But Thinkpad firmware is usually "good enough", and yes, libre firmware is great, but I have yet to see open hardware machine with "good enough" firmware. I believe there's currently too great hardware variability and changes are too fast for libre firmware to be really viable. I'd love to be proven wrong :-).

@GuloGulo @unterwasser @mkyral Jasne, ruske zbrane nepotrebuji zadne zahranicni soucastky, rusko nedovazi z ciny drony a pusky, a rusko je co se tyce potravin uplne sobestacne. O Shahidech nemluvim. :-) Jako ano, par delostreleckych naboju asi zvladnou vyrabet bez zahranicni pomoci. Ale Indie, Turecko i Cina chteji platit, nejspis i Iran. V rublech to jde cim dal hur, a nic moc jinyho rusko nema. 1:0 pro sankce :-).

@airtower People normally run a game and look for glitches, AFAICT :-).

@dcz Machines with good enough firmware that you don't need to change it are common. Same is not true for operating systems.

@jimmac So... yes, I'm looking for small and open phones. Some day I hope to experiment with #esp32 + #Espruino + modem. But if there are other solutions, I'm interested too.

@fdlamotte For the record, there's "amazfish" project doing linux support for various watches/bracelets.

@dcz Well... "--fast-math" -- that's a warning label. Yes, FP is hard. But non-broken compilers should produce code that computes same results on non-broken hardware. That excludes 387 and GPUs, I'm afraid ;-).

@dcz aha. GPUs are involved. That explains things :-).

@dcz Floating point calculations are not exact, but my understanding is, that they should be inexact in the same way on all reasonable hardware...? (387 is not reasonable, newer stuff should be).

@lkundrak Surviving is not that uncommon with CFIT. Visibility was good enough so they had some time to react... it looked like they managed to flare a bit.

@sesivany @thurrott First question should be "is it real". If so, and if Mickey$oft wants to portrait themselves as "friend of Linux", they should not lie like this.

@dos @badrihippo @tripplehelix @jacobscharmberg I'm still using EDGE here, and I notice UMTS is now off, but GSM/GPRS/EDGE still works and is useful. (I do have hw with 4G, but data is quite expensive, so EDGE is "fast enough" when I'm at wifi, mostly, anyway. Modern phones are too big for a horse ride in summer).
