Is there a fancy German word for when you find out that a fancy foreign word is actually pretty blah in its original language? Like, "Bossa Nova" just literally means "New Wave," "hors d'oeuvre" means "side project" and "wanderlust" just means "in the mood for some walking."

First thing my mind came up with was "Realitätseinholung" ("when reality catches up to you"), which Google actually finds, but is not a totally good fit.

Banalitätsoffenbarung ("when you realize something it banal" [note that "offenbarung" literally translates to "revelation"]) would be good fit, but not found on the web yet.

You could attach a "smoment" to both words if you wanted to make it longer.

@monsieuricon I'll give the boring answer and say I'd just be a little bit "enttäuscht" (disappointed) or "ernüchtert" (disillusioned/disenchanted/sobered).
