@ljs
My sympathies.
Are there like millions of people in your situation??
I've always been quite dedicated to AMD for CPUs. But I've always gone with Nvidia for GPUs.
I figure "horses for courses".
@ljs
I responded with a joke but on second thought that's too unsympathetic here, so I deleted it.
Nothing good about this situation.
@ljs Is this the hardware problem with 13th and 14th gen that can result in data corruption on disk? I haven't been keeping up that well but heard something about this.
@ljs @dougmerritt In a better timeline corporate sponsors would throw a computer at any kernel developer who said something like that in this context.
@ljs @oleksandr but they also haven't made a good CPU in a decade, so...
@ljs @oleksandr yeah but my threadripper is absolutely amazing.
@ljs @oleksandr yeah... Tell your new boss to get you a computer that works.
@ljs haha, heard on some gamer channel that intel has some ongoing trouble with manufacturing defects and microcode issues (potentially hw damaging in the long run, because of choosing unreasonably high core voltage)? could it be related?
@ljs i think this is what i've seen about what these overclockers found out. perhaps more to come

(now i don't play computer games or care about fast computers, but this bloke sometimes punishes shitty corporate behavior in very entertaining ways, sometimes worth watching for the schadenfreude itself)
@ljs
Thanks. You never know; I piss people off sometimes. Not long ago I made a joke response to our Mastodon server host, mathematician Colin Wright, when he had some system problem and he got quite pissed with me. And I've known *him* since long before any Mastodon servers existed; he invited me here.
Hard to know ahead of time how people will react. At least for clumsy and clueless people like me. π
