I just learnt my train from .de to Vienna is cancelled, and there are no replacements. I guess my LSS talk tomorrow morning is not going to take place in person. Now I am wondering when the trains will be running again so I'll make it to Vienna by LPC.
(org committee moved my talk to tuesday, let's see if i manage to reach that)
Good luck!
I got nervous a few hours ago and then booked a flight; I hated doing that, but it seems it was the right decision, as the ICE direct connection I had booked for tomorrow was cancelled a few minutes ago (it only makes it to Passau and does not even enter Austria)
Made it Salzburg for today, after quite an odyssey. All trains for today going even just in the rough direction of Vienna are cancelled. I guess that's it for today...
@pid_eins Yup the weather here really is taking a toll right now. Or as we say: Ois anfoch nur Scheiße.
@bitpirate doesnt seem to be available for the trip I need right now (salzburg to vienna).
@vbabka The Danube is not going to be a problem, that side arm called Neue Donau to the south west of where the venue is is usually closed off to the main river and can be (and probably has been) opened to massively increase flow capacity. Also the good news is that it's the U1 that brings you to the venue and that's the metro line that's still fully in operation.
@vbabka (The water to the north east isn't actually connected to the river, it's a side arm from before the straightening of the river that's now a lake.)
@pid_eins yep. there are so many cancelled trains between salzburg<->linz, and st. valentin<->vienna due to the floods...
even within Vienna some u-bahn lines are unusable at the moment.
earlier today I was at the Linz train station to pick someone up, and there were so many people just stranded there, not knowing what to do now...
@nilsding the linz hotel industry is behind global warming, finally it's revealed!
Made it to Vienna, thanks to a community member who drove anyway from Salzburg to Vienna (thank you!)
