So, after almost two months, reklamace České pošty didn't do anything to find my parcel, so the seller was kind enough to issue a refund. I feel sorry for them, it's neither their fault, nor mine, it's just that the Czech post decided to rob people.

@ljs Good to know you suffer less seeing someone else suffering more.

@oleksandr btw my experience with postal service massively improved by just having everything sent to the office. the postmen generally know where the office is, usually have more stuff to deliver and don't just "lose" packages magically.

even on my paternity leave i found it much more convenient to just pop in the office and pick the packages on my own schedule, without anybody yelling at me that it took too long for me to put my pants on and run down the stairs. especially since the lockers were introduced.

i am absolutely not fan of employee "benefits" beyond getting paid and having an access to a coffee machine, but this one has been a lifechanger

@lkundrak I used this a lot in pre-C*VID times. Nowadays I WFH almost always, and it takes me ~35 mins to get to the office. But yeah, it's a nice benefit.

@oleksandr pro tip: you can improve it to 60 mins and three near-death experiences if you ride a bike + you can get intoxicated near the soviet jets in MZM back yard

@lkundrak @oleksandr we used to do this so much that the HR and facilities outright explicitly banned personal parcels at the office reception desk

@lkundrak I'm fine with Š-Bahn packed with coughing people from Trnitá to Královo Pole, thanks. Even if vaccinated, full immersion lasting experience guaranteed.

@pony @lkundrak In our office, on contrary, parcel lockers were installed for higher comfort.

@lkundrak @ljs It already exists, and it is pretty much useless. Also, it is for former colonies, which is not the case here.

@pony @oleksandr @lkundrak I guess the alternative would be getting a PO box but ones that can do parcels seem pretty expensive.

@lanodan @oleksandr @lkundrak does not matter that much with all the public parcel boxes so popular now, though for some kind of stuff (random little shopping from china where they don't have a clue about this and just ask for a delivery address), it would still be handy as you cannot use public paczkomat as an address

@pony @lkundrak @lanodan You can negotiate putting stuff into PO even if your real address is specified.

@oleksandr @lkundrak @lanodan paczkomat isn't a po box tho, you can use po box as a direct address, that's kind of the point of it actually

@pony @oleksandr @lanodan i had a package delivered to a paczkomat once. required me to install their program, turn on bluetooth and wifi. had to call support and they seemed to have hired čp employees:
1.) my phone doesn't have a wifi, could you unlock the box for me?
2.) have you checked the manual on how do you install an app?
3.) madam my phone doesn't have a wifi and probably can't run your program
4.) do you perhaps have a friend who knows how to operate a phone?
5.) madam the app doesn't run on my phone and i don't want to run your program on my phone
6.) can you just go to the app store...

@pony @oleksandr @lanodan ...
7.) no madam my phone doesn't have a store or run your program
8.) yeah then how come other people managed to download app?

this went on, with the support lady getting increasingly arrogant. i hung up because i realized i'm not getting the package and i don't probably want it anymore.

if it ever seemed like a good idea to replace CP with a private business, i'm happy to report private business figured out a way to provide even crappier service (hello DPD, PPL, zasilkovna). CP at least hates everybody the same, but these private business actively discriminate against grumpy nerds, and i suppose the disabled, and the elderly.

@lkundrak @oleksandr @lanodan the zasilkovna guys have sheepishly retrofitted their paczkomats with keypads for pre-shared pins tho

@pony @oleksandr @lanodan what a fucking innovation
figuring out how to open a box without a pdp-11 in your pocket and radioing your location to some server in china

@oleksandr @pony @lanodan do those machines open their door without GPS, wifi, bluetooth and a round trip through a server in china?

@lkundrak @oleksandr @pony Heh GPS on a washing-machine would be "funny" as those are frequently in basements.

@lanodan @oleksandr @pony @lkundrak Feel free to put the following in the quick start guide: “The GPS module is a separate device connected with a cable and should be installed in a place with good sky visibility.”

@lkundrak @pony @oleksandr @lanodan my zasilkovna paczkomat (at our lont) attempts always ended in a shop because it was too full.
Balíkovna ČP into Alzabox - same (but at the local post office with lots of random opening times shortenings) but after 3 days of waiting.
Only Alza proper seems reliable enough.

@ljs @oleksandr @pony @lkundrak @lanodan this is why I run OpenBSD on my oven, smh.

@ljs @oleksandr @pony @lkundrak @lanodan on one hand, the oven can’t handle neither beef nor pork. When you roast the whole chicken, some parts of it will stay raw, too. On the other hand, the door mechanism is tight and it doesn’t leak any sounds or odours at all (some say that's a downside, but what do they know about ovens!), and the glass pane only allows you to see the chicken inside if you look at a very specific angle, which is also chosen randomly every time you approach the oven.

@ljs @oleksandr @pony @farcaller @lkundrak And if you run TempleOS on yours it doesn't cooks on Wednesdays and refuses non-fish meat on Fridays.
Also it only supports standard-sized ovens and the lightbulb constantly blinks.
