Musk didn’t just ruined a social network. The whole IT field lost a fundamental virtual place of information sharing and discussion, and I am sure this will slow down the field for some time.
@antirez was there any meaningful discussion actually going on? from the outside (those of us who wouldn't agree to the terms of service seldom get further than a blurry preview and a popup) it always looked like a place where bullying went rampant, assholes pretended to be virtuous and got obsessed with pointing out flaws in others and incompetent people compensated by being loud (hello)
And you know what. He did not just ruin it, he planned it. He bought the biggest megaphone with the help of his Saudi friends and used it to influence the US elections.
And you know what? It worked.
@lkundrak Humanity will always have a subset of assholes. But in general I believe there were many Twitter circles that were "working" cultural exchange environments.
@waltertross I also see BlueSky winning this race. Because distributed is better, but a strong "product" idea (even obtained for lack of features!) is what get people hooked. Anyway as long as we pick a single place, I'm ok with it...
