On the other hand, having a random "residential proxy" TV-set do anubis level 6 may actually result in it catching on fire, so there's a dubious win here in all of this.

@monsieuricon What makes you think it's done on the proxy? I'm not sure it uses the local compute, it's probably cheap enough to do on server (since they have money to burn on cloud instances).

@Aissen Yes, it's possible that scraper nodes ship off their computation to a central server farm somewhere that is better equipped at crunching hashes.

@monsieuricon urgh. That is so annoying. I guess I can switch to difficulty 6 on some stuff but you're right, it takes an absolute age to complete even on reasonable hardware.

My Thinkpad running Debian/amd64 and Firefox once took over THREE minutes (with the CPU running hot at over 60°) on git.kernel.org 🤬

Meanwhile, today someone posted a C program that calculates the cookie Anubis checks for in a decisecond.
