I have evidence that bots are now solving anubis difficulty 5. Unfortunately, at difficulty 6 the site becomes usable only to extremely patient people...

On the other hand, having a random "residential proxy" TV-set do anubis level 6 may actually result in it catching on fire, so there's a dubious win here in all of this.

@monsieuricon email me@xeiaso.net, I would like to see if you can try something that may help with this

@monsieuricon What makes you think it's done on the proxy? I'm not sure it uses the local compute, it's probably cheap enough to do on server (since they have money to burn on cloud instances).

@Aissen Yes, it's possible that scraper nodes ship off their computation to a central server farm somewhere that is better equipped at crunching hashes.

@monsieuricon @Aissen maybe they just switch to selenium when a basic request gets suspended, and then keep the solved cookie

@monsieuricon urgh. That is so annoying. I guess I can switch to difficulty 6 on some stuff but you're right, it takes an absolute age to complete even on reasonable hardware.

@monsieuricon @Aissen Iโ€™m fairly sure the residential proxies are just proxies and the scraping is being driven from elsewhere

@monsieuricon Email reply sent, sorry for the delay, working full time at a dayjob and working part time nights and weekends on Anubis is hard

@monsieuricon to add to that, Anubis is LLM slop itself ๐Ÿคฎ

My Thinkpad running Debian/amd64 and Firefox once took over THREE minutes (with the CPU running hot at over 60ยฐ) on git.kernel.org ๐Ÿคฌ

Meanwhile, today someone posted a C program that calculates the cookie Anubis checks for in a decisecond.
