pro tip: start a day with sun nvram repair
got to brag, because i think i've done a fine job compared to my usual
...which can't really be said about replacing the missing front bezel
@vbabka it install solaris onto your computer
@lkundrak WTF!
Just to be clear, I don't want to see your usual. No.
@ptesarik what is your issue sir? you dislike drilling into things? have you tried it? π
@lkundrak I love drilling into things, but the one in your pictor cannot hold pond water, so your fish dies.
@ptesarik it's your arguments that don't hold water!
@ptesarik how is that different from normal bong water
@lkundrak oh man, how can you even compare toxic bong water with well-matured musty nourishing pond water?
@ptesarik are you out of your mind and shoes?
@lkundrak It takes at least 3 years to fully mature pond water. How long does sir keep bong water? I dare bet not even one year.
@ptesarik whatever floats your boat sir
*fills shoes with water*
*installs fish*

@lkundrak @ptesarik unfortunately itβs been years since I saw a PGX64 in person but I donβt see the normal Sun part number sticker, and donβt remember it having a small second board hanging off the top. I would expect it to look more like the pics in https://www.ebay.com/itm/334736586307
@alanc @ptesarik I'm sorry, i just meant to be funny. Indeed, not a pgx64. However! The chinese apparently somehow got a truckload of Rage XLs and are selling new PCI cards with it on aliexpress.
They are a little shoddy. A mosfet in place of a regulator (same footprint, i guess?), and fed 3.3V from PCI to both 2.5V rage xl chip as well as the 5V prom & ram. The board that's dangling on the top fixes that, as well as operation in 5V PCI systems.
I've replaced the prom with a flash rom and am beating the fcode into shape -- compared to PGX64 it has a different crystal and SDRAM instead of SGRAM. Once done, my Sun will have a display! Here I come, CDE!!! \o/
