Me: we haven't played games in a while, what do you think?
Kids: yay!
Me: clicks the steam link app icon on TV
TV: the app is no longer available, remove the icon?
Me: what?

Me: fuck everything everywhere, all at once

@vbabka that app though was indeed so terrible that it convinced me to buy a gaming pc rather than keep trying.

The worst for me was not supporting surround sound on TV, but still insisting on using it on the source PC.

@flameeyes yeah it wasn't great, but enough for the simple cooperative couch gaming with the kids (think Lego story kind of games). When I play my games I use the desktop setup, not TV.

At least the good news is the hardware steam link box (which I bought in a Valve sale for around $5) still works fine after 4 years of being offline, and a bunch of self updating. That's despite being discontinued for probably the same number of years. And the latest update is from October 2023. Glad I didn't try to repurpose it after getting the TV.
