never, ever, ever build a new desktop pc, ever. Like ever.

Did I say never? Never.

@james let me throttle you through the screen...

Maybe I have bad luck with it but for me it is utter bloody agony.

@oleksandr the process of it is pure agony though.

PCI slots not going in, crap BIOS boot looping, trying to get a honking huge GPU in place etc. etc.

@ljs sir you shouldn't be smashing LGA1700 CPU into AM5 socket with a hammer sir. also, that ISA SoundBlaster you are holding, we do not use that any more

@oleksandr This does explain quite a lot actually

@james the problem really comes with the GPU which is always painful to squeeze in, that and getting the case stuff plugged in in a small space.

Then next big problem if you play with a slightly more crazy configuration is the BIOS which I seem to always get to power cycle at first.

It's painful but in the end nice to have the results

@james @ljs in his case it must be the T-Rex arms.

@vbabka @james yes this + small fat fingers causes me issues with this and also my grip on weights in the gym (grr).

Poor t-rex :(

@ljs Ha ha, sorry you had a bad experience!

I think i have built about 5 of them in recent years, and aside from the mandatory blood sacrifice to the case gods and some angle grinding to remove the hard drive bay to fit the enormous RTX 3060... Everything has been very smooth and taking less than 2h per PC.

@mupuf @ljs 90% of the time it's super easy (at least once you've done it before) but sometimes you can hit that PC that's has a DoA part or some accidentally bent pins etc that can make it miserable.

@mupuf somehow I displeased satan and you pleased him.

Anyway I have 192 GB of ram now so nothing matters any more

@conor @mupuf yeah it's the bios that seems to fuck it for me every time, last 2 times (and last time I did a rebuild was 8 yrs or so ago), both times POWER CYCLING.

At some point in the past I somehow damaged a line from the RAM on the mobo or something and it resulted in not fun things
