the only thing related to world news i've knowingly spotted during last three weeks is this Easter pic with a creepiest ever bunny :-)

I've done a series that adds support for AF_UNIX sockets in coredumps. Userspace provides an AF_UNIX socket path via core_pattern and the kernel connects to it, shuts down the read side and writes the coredump to the socket.

This means no more super privileged usermode helper upcalls and makes for a very nice API experience. I captured coredumps simply via socat:

https://lore.kernel.org/20250430-work-coredump-socket-v1-0-2faf027dbb47@kernel.org

The receiver can use SO_PEERPIDFD to get a stable handle on the crashed process.

If I was a dictator of this world, I would forbid cameras in phones :-) They net so much more harm than they do good.

i know that i'm doing pretty good in my life if i don't post a lot to social media :-)

this is more like an implication i.e, i might post a lot once in a while and still do well.

@vbabka @hrw Yeah, I moved on to something much more down to earth: enabling first class school experience for kids in Finland, Germany and Switzerland :-) It's a goal I get, and it makes common sense to everyone: https://opinsys.com/contact/. They were also looking a person with the set of kernel skills and contacts I have, so it all ended up well ...

If I was honest, it was all bullshit and made a huge mistake taking that job, and actually getting fired was my favorite moment in that job (not joking). WTF I was thinking. But yep, also contract went down the fucking drain too and I had to hand deliver it myself. LOL. It's really therapy to say this out that I was fucking stupid, i.e. triggers a trauma but it's like when poop comes finally into potty after constipation ;-) I apology the unrelated parts ... and thank you for mentioning (I really do mean this, neither a joke).

@oleksandr I mean people say that tomorrow, if not toda,y AI will be smarter than any of us so should be an easy task really. Not like winning a Nobel price or anything. Just plain basic engineering ...

@oleksandr If AI is so great why ChatGPT just doesn't write a better browser than Chrome?

No need to buy anything ...

I came across information that the original quote in Futurism which said 99% electricity use was incorrect.
https://futurism.com/google-ceo-congress-electricity-ai-superintelligence

The transcript says “3% to 9%”.
https://www.techpolicy.press/transcript-us-lawmakers-probe-ais-role-in-energy-and-climate/

The larger point remains, though. AI and data center energy and water use is surging, and we are only at the beginning of this whole thing. For years, data centers energy use stayed below 1% and we were told not to worry. In countries like Ireland, data center energy use is now already over 20%
