Any known examples in open source products doing the following pattern with Rust:

1. You have a Rust crate that you compile to you compile as usual host-to-host.
2. You have a build.rs that spawns cargo to a directory with rust-toolchain.xml defining nightly target.
3. You pass options (e.g. --target) for cargo to compile for a different target than the host.

Obviously Command is used to create the process together with current_directory() to change the directory to the one with Cargo.toml and rust-toolchain.xml. It is not a sub-crate per se topologically but a disjoint crate.

In Linux and macOS this can be made to work. With Windows cargo is acting like --target etc. options did not exist at all and ignores rust-toolchain.xml.

Any ideas how to make this type of pattern work?

1. WMI: it's difficult path for short living processes. I could not make this work. Either I run into privilege issues or I have a racy monitoring.
2. sysmon: This is the way to go. Period ;-)

I will never try WMI again, that's for sure. And luckily Windows build issues are not every day thing...

A reminder that Greenland is part of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) of the EU and Greenlandic citizens are EU citizens.

Any move by Trump and the US to invade and annex Greenland would be a declaration of war with the EU and a gross violation of its 1951 treaty to protect Greenland from attack. (Though not ironic as the mafia never protects you from itself.) Furthermore, an attack on a NATO member would be deemed an attack on all other NATO members (Art 5) and a violation of the treaty (Art 8).

If neither EU nor NATO members did anything to protect Greenland/Denmark against the US’s overwhelming military might (as is likely) – and, remember, US troops are already in Greenland and in other EU countries also – it would signal that no EU or NATO state is safe should a stronger military decide to invade.

If anything, if the EU hasn’t understood it yet, it must start treating the US not as an ally but as a threat. Trump isn’t a clown. He’s the fascist leader of the country with – in the words of Kamala Harris – the world’s most lethal military.

We must shore up our defenses because it is becoming impossible to ignore that the EU is caught between two hostile forces: a fascist US on the one side and a fascist Russia on the other, neither of which have two shits to give about international law (that was a quaint concept while it lasted, wasn’t it?)

Either we learn to defend ourselves in the EU or we become a vassal state of Gilead. And, as much as I oppose militaries – in a world in which they very much exist – I’d much rather it wasn’t the latter.

Has anyone tried Threats by Meta yet? ;-)

Starting to feel like this 2025 Influx of users is much larger than 2022 Influx of users. New users come in huge waves. Many of them also seem to genuinely like Mastodon according to the feedback. In 2022 many tried, soon gave up and left to Bluesky or back to X. Today, many have even deleted their commercial accounts and settled here.

I like this new development of things. Seeing new faces and more cat photos brings me so much joy. Thanks for being here. Remember that you matter.
