@mw1cgg thanks, it seems popular!

@adamjsy Actually that seems like a reasonable price. I'm seeing $140-$400 for name brands.

Troubleshooting a Tek spectrum analyzer PSU. Gonna need a bigger boat. I mean, an ESR meter.
Any recommendations on a budget ESR meter? 🤔

Linux Security Summit 🐧

Edited 1 year ago
A new batch of Linux Security Summit stickers has arrived! These will be distributed at upcoming conferences, starting with LSS-EU in a few weeks. There's also now a "Europe" 🇪🇺 version of the sticker.

I read this while flying across the Pacific Ocean and can highly recommend. Mersini-Houghton has established, with a testable theory, how our universe arose from an energy landscape as one of many different universes, overturning millennia of entrenched thinking that our world is special.

There's a good video on this here but I definitely needed the book to understand the finer details.

It's interesting that the observed evidence for her theory is stronger than she indicates in the video -- she is incredibly humble!

@vathpela not that I know of. I think this can be run on a real quantum computer if I can figure out the right cloud magic.

Best meteor scatter rx so far: 1127 km. With just a dipole & preamp on 6m.

Definitely living in the future here -- using AI to write code for a quantum computer.

The local electronics store (Vetco) is an Aladdin's cave of test equipment at the moment.

It could be interpreted as "to avoid starting a new interaction, do not reply", so if you did not want a new interaction, you would in fact need to reply.

@appfrosch @searls It is confusing English, and can be interpreted as the opposite of what they are trying to say.

Overnight meteor scatter rx haul on 6m, longest distance so far.

@vathpela @Lyude I stopped watching all ST a couple of episodes into Disco. They wrecked it.

@kellylepo it's so hard to wrap my head around the reality of objects of this scale and energy. Just the idea of an 'ordinary' elliptical galaxy for a start...

@VE2UWY @va3db @zazzoo I haven’t listened to a repeater like that but now I will try it. I’m no expert in meteor scatter but AFAIK the Doppler shift is within the pass band overall - there is spread, possibly similar to aurora. Btw I don’t know if people realize there is measurable Doppler on HF skip, especially during solar events, when the ionospheric layers change in height.

@va3db @zazzoo and btw, this was with no pre-amp, and a dipole for a different band.

@va3db @zazzoo setting this up is easy if you can do FT8 or WSPR already, and have something as simple as a dipole for 6m. Run wsjt-x in msk144 mode overnight during this weekend and see if you catch anything. I just set this up last night and it worked. Note that signals closer than 500km are probably not MS.

@va3db @VE2UWY @zazzoo The ionized trail itself is not moving especially fast, which is what is used for communication.
