If I had a bucket full of hockey pucks, I would still give zero pucks about twitter.

@mariusor This is good, I like it. Thank you for the recommendation!

@yuri Hmm.. no, never mind, I can't make anyone show up as verified Torvalds on github, because this requires a record on the github side of things.

Okay, I will give this some extra props. However, as instance admin I can still speak for anyone who is verified on my instance, so you're still never sure who is really speaking as "verified user."

@yuri Yes, but where does the info from the user profile come from? You still have to trust the original instance admins to not have tampered with it. I can make any user on my instance to show up as "verified torvalds on github".

I still consider this largely "validation theatre," unfortunately -- largely for the same reason "green title bar extended validation" certificates didn't stick around.

@lightmoll Unfortunately, all of these discussions will inevitably go back to "self-sovereign identities are the only answer, but we can't possibly make them scale." :)

"Verified on Mastodon" is meaningless if you don't 100% trust that instance's admins.

@kdave btw, we can make it be served from an ad-free btrfs.docs.kernel.org domain if you like.

@kdave it wasn't on the chopping block yet anyway, but I'm glad you're on top of things! :)

The wiki murdering spree is now en vigueur, starting with rt.wiki.kernel.org. More murders to be committed tomorrow.

Chillsynth / retrowave album recommendations? Has to have actual melody, not just chords morphing one into another.

@mariusor @internetarchive We don't really need that -- we have archive.kernel.org as well. E.g. we prepped things for https://archive.kernel.org/oldwiki/git.wiki.kernel.org/ already.

I plan on sunsetting all wikis at kernel.org by archiving them to static sites, migrating them to RTD-style docs, or just turning them off if they haven't been updated in 10+ years.

@drewdevault Dark matter is just git objects from alternate timelines that haven't yet been pruned.

@etienne I'm not really "seeing anything coming." I just saw way too many "it could never happen" things actually go ahead and happen in the past decade or so.

@etienne now imagine that Microsoft sells the GitHub division to Ouijaboard (I mean another company here, but last time I mentioned them by name, they complained to my boss).

@aesthetikx layoffs, turning off free APIs, increasingly desperate attempts to monetize everything. You name it.
