My kid spent the last 5 days building an ALU emulator in Minecraft with redstone and switches. Predictably, I've come up with a lot of "I think I just saw an actual spectre in your CPU" jokes, but thus far failed to execute them.

Not sure what's causing it yet, but our primary mirror replication speeds are down to 20Mbps from the usually healthy 4-5 Gbps. I don't think it's anything on our end, so I'll try to flag our Equinix support overlords.

If you find that mirrors.edge.kernel.org is lagging behind, that would be why.

As someone who has regretted naming something "b4" due to how hard it is to reliably search, I have to giggle at naming something "x".

I am umpiring 7 games in 6 days this week. Thankfully, not all of them behind the plate, otherwise I think my squatting muscles would give out by Friday.

Yes, Google, that's exactly how roundabouts work.

Ask fedi: There are a few "raspi-like" boards built with riscv, but a) is there a decently working one, and b) is there a raspbian-like distro to go with it?

It's now been half a month since I asked Red Hat for their "free RHEL subscriptions for Open Source Infrastructure." I still don't have them, so even if this program is legitimate, it's certainly not a quick process.

I remember the last time lkml.org went offline for an extended period of time everyone and their uncle emailed me to complain.

Planet of Lana is if Gris and Horizon had a child. It's short and sweet and works fine on the Steam Deck. Go get it.

NTS (and others): mlmmj development seems to have permanently relocated here: https://codeberg.org/mlmmj/mlmmj

There's a 1.4.0b1 pre-release available, so things are looking hopeful that there will be a 1.4.0 in the near future.

When you install Threads on your mobile phone, that's technically "Portable Threads."

Nice, "scorethat.run" domain was available, so it's now mine. I may move my baseball stuff there. ;)

Umpiring youth baseball games is very much like writing free software. Most of the time you feel great for contributing your time to something that clearly benefits everyone, but every now and again some dude comes along and tells you that you are shit and all of your decisions were wrong.

The air quality gauge is hovering between "very unhealthy" and "dangerous" (240).

Unfortunately, the forecast is looking like the smoke is going to sit right atop us for a few days.

W: so, what happened?
Dick: Pooty-poot's kooky-cook did a coopy-coup.
W: and did it work?
Dick: no, Looky-Luke got them off the hooky-hook.
W: so, it's finished, then?
Dick: no, Pooty-poot got a booty-boot deep up his poopy-chute, so...
W: okay, okay, I gotcha.
