Probably some RISC-V stuff, but hopefully other things too ;)

Day four of no power and no Internet. This big tree is the reason. One among hundreds in the area, but this is the one that took out *our* power and Internet.

PGE (Portland General Electric) claims we should get power back by 10pm today, but the ice storm arrives today, so we'll see.

Edit: well, it looks like PGE fixed the outage by just removing me from the outage database, not by actually reconnecting power. That was the second time that happened, so I re-re-reported the outage. Not that I was hugely optimistic about the 10pm timeframe, but it looks even less likely now.

I'm against capital punishment in general, but I might be convinced to keep it on the books for product designers who put the screws under glued-on rubber feet

"In 9, we upgraded the ISA baseline to the x86-64-v2 microarchitecture level. For RHEL 10, we are exploring whether we can go a step further, to the x86-64-v3 level."

Did you know:

There is a single misplaced pixel in Toad's spritesheet. This error is across all versions, including prototypes as far back as April 1992. That shade of red doesn't appear on any Toad head sprites, and is too out of place on his head to be part of the ovals.

the picture on the right is circling the sprites that are at the same scale to show a full rotation, showing that the pixel is actually an error.

Sneaky lil guy has been hiding for over 30 years!

vger mail transfer is complete and working well.

Please send your kind regards and words of thanks to @warthog9 for his work managing vger over the past several years, after having taken over its maintenance from DaveM.

@monsieuricon I didn’t want to spam the lists as I think I just still don’t know how email works, but IIUC saying “we will switch the MX record for vger to point to the new location (subspace.kernel.org)” means that I do not need to do something like this?

Putting software in containers is cruel and unnatural.

Programs should be allowed to roam and graze freely on computer systems. Forcibly isolating and constraining them will lead only undue suffering.

Use of technologies such as Docker in systems administration must be ended immediately, there is no ethical justification for inflicting trauma like this in an enlightened society.

In this "free range software manifesto" I will -

Well, TIL that b4 shazam has some other handy flags like -H and I can use that instead of make a branch, apply, merge, drop in cover letter.

2. Get yourself in linux-next and get tested by community Continuous Integration/Testing.
3. Add yourself to kernel.org keyring, sign your tags and pushes (for transparency log).
4. Dump the mailing lists: use lei and lore
