There's a modern trend (though perhaps it has always been there) of people deciding they're Very Cross (TM) about issue X, Y or Z and will never, ever stop talking about it.

It then becomes part of their identity, to the degree that it becomes impossible for them to accept nuance, or that perhaps they can propose no alternative to the thing that makes them cross, let alone to consider that they may be in part or wholly wrong about it.

And then these people rinse and repeat over and over and over again...

You see it for big issues, small issues, niche issues, broad issues.

Humility and willingness to be embarrassed are how you escape from this trap, but both of those are in very short supply, and self righteousness is a hell of a drug.

@ljs Are you referring to the people who are ranting about the Linux kernel development process? πŸ˜‰

@basha LOL actually in this case no, because at least those people have SOME good points, though they definitely have the quality of being absolutely unwilling to listen to anybody else's opinion.

@ljs so in your case, let's say Musk is X, obviously, but is AI an Y or Z for you?

@ljs that's a part of the reason why I don't like debating non-technical topics.
