Oh, another β€œsystemd considered evil” round, based on a command that no normal user, even if root, would ever use. This was fixed right away and that could be the end of the story. But noooooo. It’s systemd. So the bashing MUST continue. Le sigh.

When did you last use β€˜sudo systemd-tmpfiles --purge’?

@luis_in_brief @inthehands @graydon @regehr @pervognsen @durin42 @dsp It'll still be fragile, cumbersome and anti-newcomer, but in addition we will also lose all the abuse prevention layers of email, such as spam filtering, node IP reputation, etc. Plus, ActivityPub is great for one-to-many and one-to-one communication, but it's quite terrible at many-to-many interactions common on mailing lists. I mean, you have to run something like FediFetcher just to see all the replies on a thread that you didn't start.

@Aissen @ljs I didn't think they still made shirts out of asbestos.

@mo Yes, I realize that it wasn't a very useful comment. My apologies.

@mo I believe the most effective method is significantly adjusting your GPS coordinates. Has other benefits as well.

Saw my first quantum computer during the tour of Calcul QuΓ©bec at Γ‰TS. It's not quite operational, but pretty cool nonetheless.

I finally released b4-0.14.0 with some neat features. Read the announcement for details:

This AP tweet is an instant candidate for the Museum of American Fascism. Carve it in stone and put it over the entrance. It should be an enduring source of burning shame and embarrassment for the entire organization, as well as a warning to other media.

Everyone talks about the Tooth Fairy, but nobody ever mentions her elderly aunt, the Root Canal Banshee.

Believe it or not, there is still plenty of interesting and exciting work to talk about that doesn't involve LLMs.

Cryptographers contributing to the IETF is working to standardize FROST, a two-round threshold signature algorithm based on Schnorr proofs, which is backwards compatible with Ed25519.

This means it will soon be possible to generate Ed25519 signatures from, for example, 4-of-7 shares held by independent parties. And the verifier doesn't need to do anything different; it's just an Ed25519 signature to them.

That's cool as fuck.

There's little-to-no hype about it.

LOL, I think my fake "Flooring Inspector" title on LinkedIn is starting to confuse bots.

Except it's Guybrush, not Gregory, you fools.
