Annnd they lost my bag :))))

My advice is to never, ever connect in the US if you can avoid it, but if you can't then to leave 3+ hour layovers maybe more.

@ljs also don’t fly United. I dislike most airlines but United somehow manages to be even worse than the rest.

@ljs @liskin @cwayne @vbabka At last British Airways have never objected to my boarding the plane barefoot.

Unlike Delta, who object every single time.

@ljs @ptesarik @liskin @vbabka yeah I gotta be honest dude I'm with Delta on this one

@cwayne @ljs @liskin @vbabka I'm barefoot all the time, except when forced by Delta to put on shoes.

@cwayne @ptesarik @ljs @liskin Petr even did the 600m to 1300m elevation hike after the Labs conference few weeks ago barefoot. I was glad to have proper hiking boots.

@ptesarik @cwayne @ljs @vbabka If you're barefoot all the time it's probably fair to say your body has developed its own shoes…

So yeah if we're taking sides I'm against Delta on this one, despite its lovely name that would otherwise appeal to mathematicians.

@liskin @cwayne @ljs @vbabka If they also want to appeal to computer scientists, they should change their name to Lambda.

@ptesarik @ljs @liskin @cwayne @vbabka Given 90 second goal of aircraft evacuation, and possibility of fire/various debris in case evacuation is needed, requirement for shoes does not seem unreasonable.

@pavel @ptesarik @cwayne @ljs @vbabka By that logic you'd need to exclude flip flops and most heels as well. Which is obviously not happening, so Petr still gets to wear his naturally developed shoe replacement.

@liskin @ptesarik @cwayne @ljs @pavel yeah I think they actually say to leave high heels behind when evacuating because of the inflatable slides
1

@vbabka @liskin @cwayne @pavel @ptesarik it doesn't matter what you do if it's a water landing though, as you'll just die.

I do like the shit inflatable jacket, like bro you'll die from hypothermia in the atlantic within 20 minutes at max lol guess makes easier to find your body
3

3
@ljs @vbabka @cwayne @liskin @ptesarik Still depends where in Atlantic. Glide range from cruise altitude is great enough that there's a chance to land near a ship.

Plus slides are very useful when landing at the river. That gives people good chance..
1

3
@pavel @cwayne @liskin @ptesarik @vbabka the odds of you crashing in a way where you both survive and are near a ship are probably billions to one.

The miracle on the Hudson is called a miracle for a reason.

@ljs @cwayne @liskin @ptesarik @vbabka Your language is confusing. Yes, surviving crash is hard. Surviving forced landing on water... not really. You can glide for 200km from cruising altitude. Water landings are more common than you believe. See for example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuninter_Flight_1153 .

@ljs @ptesarik @cwayne @pavel @vbabka Being easier to find your body is genuinely useful though!

@cwayne @pavel @ptesarik @liskin @vbabka it's like in lost, when Ben leaves the island and everything goes to shit.

That's because you left mate. The island wants you back.

@liskin @cwayne @ljs @pavel @vbabka TBH they'll find my body without shoes just the same.

1

3
@pavel @cwayne @liskin @ptesarik @vbabka they're really not they're extremely uncommon even among crashes. Listing the few examples is lol.

Also your example is 23 miles from the coast... and 'Sixteen of the 39 people on board died'. And in a warm sea!!

So like not far off half of people die.

Which makes my point for me.

They are generally never survivable, the plane breaks up when it hits the water because you have to catch it just right to stand any chance of landing on it safely, and the you're stuck in the middle of the ocean potentially, and will just die anyway.

Trust me I've watched more air crash documentaries than you've had hot dinners son

@ljs @cwayne @liskin @ptesarik @vbabka So given the air crash documentation, you'll surely be able to come with more reasonable estimation of surviving forced water landing than 10E-9? :-)

@liskin @ptesarik @cwayne @lkundrak @ljs yeah but that word is only used for water taps and not beer, no?
1

1
@vbabka @ptesarik @cwayne @lkundrak @ljs No it's the other way round. Wikipedia says:

> A beer tap is a valve, specifically a tap, for controlling the release of beer. While other kinds of tap may be called faucet, valve or spigot, the use of tap for beer is almost universal. The word was originally coined for the wooden valve in traditional barrels.

@liskin @ptesarik @cwayne @lkundrak @ljs I mean the Czech word kohoutky, beer tap is čep, rather?

@vbabka @ptesarik @cwayne @lkundrak @ljs Dunno, but "výčepní kohout" gives me plenty of hits on Google. Like, serious looking beer equipment merchants kind of hits.

@ljs @ptesarik @cwayne @lkundrak @vbabka I can confirm that my London flat isn't any less practical than what I was used to in the EU. We even have an actual light switch for the bathroom, not a baby's dummy on a piece of string as was tradition.

@vbabka @ptesarik @cwayne @hny @lkundrak @ljs I am actually. I lost 4 kilos (which is a bit over 5% of my weight) over the last month despite not doing any exercise. It is a little suspicious, but after all those antibiotics I don't think it's a parasite. Most likely it's just my brain getting back to its normal "give me sugar or whatever and let me process it into computer instructions" mode.
