I'm like 9th generation American or something, and judging by the work of the few relatives who are hot on genealogy, 100% English descent, as far as I can tell, which is very weird in the U.S.

Nobody cares, except it means I have no colorful stories to tell, unlike e.g. my wife's parents.

@ptesarik @lkundrak @vbabka @ljs Because it is very close to Polish, similarly to Ukrainian. Don't be fooled by the shitty Slavic languages taxonomy. It's not Eastern/Western/Southern. The Eastern Slavic group was invented to justify Muscovian influence on neighbouring countries, while the Muscovian language itself is much closer to Bulgarian, which is Southern. There are two Slavic language groups really: Northwestern and Southeastern. This way, it makes much more sense once one starts to study them.

@pavel @ptesarik @lkundrak @ljs @vbabka In current official Ukrainian transliteration the /x/ sound is represented by "kh" frankenstuff, which is not good either, but we are yet to find a better way. For instance, in the Slovenian language, it's just "h", but they do not have /ɦ/ sound.

@oleksandr @pavel @lkundrak @ljs @vbabka The better approach is to use "x" for the /x/ sound and "ks" for the /ks/ sound. Such tekst then looks a bit Polish, and I think that's beautiful.
