@ljs @lkundrak
I'm like 9th generation American or something, and judging by the work of the few relatives who are hot on genealogy, 100% English descent, as far as I can tell, which is very weird in the U.S.
Nobody cares, except it means I have no colorful stories to tell, unlike e.g. my wife's parents.
@ljs
Yeah, same to me here in the U.S.
It did get me a very special tour of Japan though. Briefly. :)
@ljs @dougmerritt i also think that only the brits and the czech have an actual humor
@lkundrak @ljs @dougmerritt Sir, you must be talking about British HUMOUR.
@dougmerritt @ljs @lkundrak For the record, if you don't like schnitzel, you won't like Czechs eitherโฆ
@oleksandr @ljs @lkundrak If this name doesn't appear on the book cover, I promise I'll patch the PDF.
@ptesarik @oleksandr @ljs i didn't get the joke
because i'm not integrated enough
@lkundrak @oleksandr @ljs Come on, we didn't even insist on spelling it ะะฐะฒัะฐ ะกัะพัะบโฆ
@oleksandr @lkundrak @ljs fuck latin letters
*shriek*
@oleksandr @ptesarik @lkundrak @ljs glagolitic obv.
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs but then we'd confuse it with slovak instead of russian. if i were to choose, i'd choose to be confused with the polish
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs note i said "we"
i'm fully aware that to whoever looks from the outside, the western slavic stuff looks all the same, because it kind of is -- croatian, slovak, czech.
except for serbian, of course. for some reason their written text sometimes looks russian.
@lkundrak @oleksandr @vbabka @ljs I once saw Belorussian written in Latin letters, and that looked markedly similar to Polish.
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs bro it is all the same
@ptesarik @oleksandr @vbabka @ljs yeah. ukrainian also looks sorta polish once you get through the encryption
@lkundrak @oleksandr @vbabka @ljs Poles should be Northern Slavs. They could even move to the North Pole.
@ptesarik @lkundrak @vbabka @ljs Because it is very close to Polish, similarly to Ukrainian. Don't be fooled by the shitty Slavic languages taxonomy. It's not Eastern/Western/Southern. The Eastern Slavic group was invented to justify Muscovian influence on neighbouring countries, while the Muscovian language itself is much closer to Bulgarian, which is Southern. There are two Slavic language groups really: Northwestern and Southeastern. This way, it makes much more sense once one starts to study them.
@oleksandr @vbabka @ljs You should add a disclaimer to this toot, or @lkundrak 's family may try to sue you for misguidance after his death.
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs haha, lol. heard that before: "oh, a slovak! ๐ฅ our brother! ๐ฅ we the slavs are all brothers! ๐ฅ brothers and sisters! ๐ฅ๐ฅ
except for the fucken croats!!!"
@oleksandr @ptesarik @vbabka @ljs okay
dude
this is straight from preลกov
@pony @oleksandr @lkundrak @ljs @vbabka Moldova should annex Transnistria. There's been too little fun in Europe in the last couple of yearsโฆ
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs haha, no, a hotel in prague actually
cc @filabrazilska , whose kosovan albanian colleague absolutely didn't appreciate any of this or so i was told
@oleksandr @ptesarik @vbabka @ljs you spell based wrong
but i'm far enough not to understand much of eastern slovak. i think some of them speak rusyn
@lkundrak @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs @filabrazilska True IT guy doesn't follow instructions.
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs @filabrazilska i swear i've seen a video from a serb-croat war where the croats captured a serb who was left behind.
as soon as he realized they're not going to just murder him, he legit went on with this "brothers" bullshit, much to the amusement of the croat soldiers
edit: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYfgLaVCnKM
@oleksandr @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs @filabrazilska when i go to croatia, i'll go collect unexploded ammunition in the army shooting range ๐จ๐ฟ๐จ๐ฟ๐จ๐ฟ
@oleksandr @lkundrak @vbabka @ljs I have always thought Rusyn is a language of its own. If you go that way, you might call Slovak a Ukrainian dialect and then even liberate Slovakia from mafia once you're done with muscovians. Somehow I'm not convinced this would bring more peace to the land.
@lkundrak @vbabka @ptesarik @ljs @filabrazilska Send it you know where.
@oleksandr @pavel @lkundrak @ljs @vbabka The better approach is to use "x" for the /x/ sound and "ks" for the /ks/ sound. Such tekst then looks a bit Polish, and I think that's beautiful.
@ptesarik @oleksandr @pavel @ljs @vbabka yes
gentlemen
s/x/ks/, s/ch/x/, then fix ฤ, remove ลฏ and you're golden!
*brachiates away*
@ljs @oleksandr @ptesarik @pavel @vbabka with man this is impossible, but with god all things are possible

@oleksandr @ptesarik @pavel @ljs @vbabka yeah, and exiting a text editor
@lkundrak @oleksandr @pavel @ljs @vbabka OTOH I have always wondered why vim does not accept :ะะะฅ as an alias for :q!
@oleksandr @lkundrak @pavel @ljs @vbabka Can I add your Acked-by?
