Cat poni, Whorseman of Apocalypse

when parking on sidewalk is not enough of shithead behavior for you, make sure you also boldly stand in the middle of it, to make the point

@pony that's incredible, doesn't look like he has the universal Continental European signal for 'I can park anywhere I like' - i.e. his hazards on either.

Very bold.

Of course, it's a fucking audi lol

@pony to be clear people do that in the UK too just nowhere near as often lol.

Except uber drivers in London

@pony @lkundrak @vbabka or miles from Vienna?

Or no not km from Vienna?
1

@ljs @lkundrak @vbabka kilometers to vienna, historically

(it's no longer strictly accurate, but it's indeed about 260 kilometer on rail from there to vienna)

@pony @lkundrak @ljs also I've been called stupid for choosing ČD (rj 79) over RegioJet, what is your expert opinion sir.

@vbabka @lkundrak @ljs nah, it cool, would pick it too (actually on my last trip vienna, did, piggo picked regiojet, i was home 10 minutes ahead of schedule, he was an hour late)

@ljs @pony @lkundrak rj stands for RailJet so indeed we have multiple choices of jet do prdele trains!

@vbabka @pony @lkundrak @ljs I wish this whole "jet do prdele" thing was not a joke. Lorenzo might disagree, but I really quite like the railways around London. They are, in a sense, "jet do prdele" and "jet z prdele" trains—the British might say "commuter trains". But they cover similar distances as long distance trains in Czechia do, and some of these "commuter" trains are 200 km/h Pendolinos. Yet you still can use them without reservation and with no extra payment for carrying a bicycle. And, as any good commuter trains should, they go every 15 minutes (give or take).

@vbabka @pony @ljs bruh the cd railjets are much much better than regiojet. like different century stuff.

@liskin @pony @lkundrak @vbabka ok so all cyclists should be shot obviously so we might mildly disagree on that bit (perhaps a little bit?) but yes the actual network is good what's not good is

1. They charge so much money you are left destittute
2. They go on strike for even more money despite earning 5x - 10x as much as they would in any other industry
3. They're unreliable
4. Most staff are fine these days, but you get some that very clearly know their jobs are safe
5. All cyclists should be shot out of a cannon

EDIT: 6. They run trains so short (like 4 carriages too few) you have to stand and still pay outrageous amounts of money

@filabrazilska @lkundrak I might actually try the Rail and Sail thing one day, and then just cycle from Hoek. But I'm terrible at planning anything, so always just end up in the local brewery doing nothing remarkable 🙁

@ljs @pony @lkundrak @vbabka I do have a vague memory of seeing another human on a train but it's really vague. Mostly I travel on very long empty trains. 😁
Also I don't think I saw a staff member on a train this year. Vague memory of maybe having seen them in the past once. The only staff interactions I have is they telling me to take skates off on the platform because health and safety. Suppose the cannon thing applies here too.

@liskin @pony @lkundrak @vbabka yeah sorry skaters go in the cannon too, I don't make the rules.

Actually wait, I do! But shit, I appealed and the appeal failed. Sorry.

Yeah the negative staff stuff hasn't happened to me for a while tbh, but when younger and super reliant on trains I had some moments were people talked to me like I was the biggest piece of shit.

Had a guy scream at me at a train station for asking about whether I could use an oyster (early days of oyster), like literally scream at me.

Had a guy at Reading train station when I asked a simple question about a train say 'look at the board!' in a hugely disrespectful and aggressive tone (when the board didn't answer my question the colossal fucking moron) and then he walked off like I had done something wrong.

And countless arrogant moments of disdain over the years.

Obviously you encounter arseholes everywhere, but in commercial settings there's a sense they realise being a total dick to customers is unwise, on the railways not so much.

This shit makes an impression and stays with you...

@liskin @lkundrak @pony @vbabka There's also a casual sort of disrespect in like they'll randomly decide to close the station car park or a large part of it with zero notice, zero indication of how long it'd take and a half-arsed sign in biro they stuck up in a place you wouldn't see driving in.

Like guys, you charge 12 quid a fucking day for your shit car park then charge another 25 quid to get the train, then I have to pay another 5 - 10 quid to get anywhere, maybe show a LITTLE respect?

@vbabka ÖBB railjets are also nice, I was afraid of prices but they aren't that bad after all.

(Edit: I meant the prices in the on board restaurant)

(edit: i can't resist:
werich: (koukaje na voskovce) nad cim premyslis?
voskovec: jak dlouha je nanosekunda? a da se to vubec zmerit?
werich: vsechno se da zmerit a nezalezi jestli je na nose, nebo na necem jinym. dlouha je, dle meho soudu, stejne )
