ChatGPT is hilariously bad at baseball rules, so I say we ban it because it's clearly unamerican.

Well, at least ChatGPT is just as wrong about this as most coaches.

(No, the ball is not dead after infield fly is called.)

@gregkh @brauner hmm... even en_eff just gave me "20230404-penknife-urology-aeef2b@meerkat", so I guess it's still worth being careful.

@brauner @gregkh then that should be ok. :)

@brauner @gregkh the en_eff wordlist used by default should be 7-bit-clean: https://www.eff.org/files/2016/07/18/eff_large_wordlist.txt

@gregkh @brauner careful, message-ids can only be 7-bit.

@itaru I just need an RSS reader. I don't want to sponsor weird and borderline unethical AI research.

@corbet Oof, I can only imagine! I didn't really "miss" him, I just haven't run into him ever since I'd stopped visiting the blue site.

I was mostly amused by the mental picture that someone could "pry Pine out of Linus's hands and force him to use webmail."

@brauner it's just a random person with a lot of bad takes and a huge hatred for LF (some of it justified, if you approach everything from the free software purist point of view, but most of it is just taking everything in bad faith). I don't want to link to his site, but if you search for his name, you'll find where that article came from.

I only know about it because it blipped on the "kernel.org media mentions" alert that I have.

> As a β€˜Linux’ Foundation Fellow or a Principal Developer, taking charge of kernel.org only indirectly (a Russian person handles most of the infrastructure; someone from the Ural region), does Torvalds have much of a say on what to use for E-mail in the β€˜Linux’ Foundation (using a trademark he controls)?

LOL, I missed the inane ramblings of Roy Schestowitz.

@ljs Right, well, I'm afraid I'm not nearly as qualified to talk about systems of governance as I am about systems of delivering end-to-end messaging. ;)

@ljs The important test is not just "how well does it work," but also "how well does it fail." We've not yet built a system for unrestricted global communication that fails as well as email.

@ljs well, you can also buy a bunch of confirmed Instagram accounts for something like $0.03 a pop, so I doubt this will actually make any marked difference.

The (sad) truth is, for a decentralized non-opt-in communication platform, email is as good as it gets.

@ljs ActivityPub, for example, is going to get just as bad as mail today, because it allows non-opt-in communication. If someone adds your AP instance to some kind of "fediblock list" out there, you'll never get it off either.
