Riding horses, hacking computers, phones and smartwatch.
lds and Makefile, and I have code running bare-metal (ok, s-mode) on risc-v. Wow. Easier than expected. https://gitlab.com/tui/tui/-/tree/master/vroot?ref_type=heads

@airtower Is rtl8723cs very different from rtl8723bs? Anyway I guess understanding if existing driver can be adapted is the first step. Not sure about good introductions, but network drivers are conceptually quite simple, and wifi is not an exception. Good luck :-).

@martijnbraam I'm debugging low framerates with main camera on PinePhone. I can't convince libcamera to get more than 8.5 fps. So I tried megapixels, I could not clone from main site, so I have:

519570a267ad8e70c16f45c7157ac195f57c4c66 (HEAD -> master, origin/master, origin/HEAD)
Remove calibration data for PP front camera (MR 34)

Preview looks nicely smooth, but AFAICT it is around 7fps. I'm on mobian. Any idea of possible causes / how to debug that?

@monsieuricon Actually it should be "add" and "del", as Alpine does. Having to type "apt-get install" feels wrong after experience with alpine.

@gregkh @Logical_Error Having kernel sources does not mean bootloader is not locked, for example. We are not protected by GPLv3. List of Android phones usable with custom kernels is not that long, basically OnePlus 6 or Droid 4, see https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices for details.

@krcmar Hele nevim. Android je spyware od googlu, a trochu bych se divil kdyby bankovni aplikace nespehovala (nebude open-source, ze?). Plus vyrobci telefonu... rekneme... nejsou s bezpecnosti tak poctivy jako Linuxove distribuce. Mam dve zarizeni -- relativne bezpecne PC a neprilis bezpecny telefon, a utocnik by musel kontrolovat obe. S bankovni aplikaci mu staci kontrolovat jedno... Chapu ze SMS nejsou uplne bezpecne (ale to spousta bankovnich veci taky neni, treba m-bank si s bezpecnosti hlavu v podstate nelame), ale porad to jsou dve zarizeni misto jednoho.

@libcamera But it seems ov64a40 driver is not yet supported by mainline kernel, yet, so there's still more work to do?

@benno Yeah, limit copyright to 14 years as it used to be, that should help both AIs and children :-).

@ptesarik @cas @kernellogger @gregkh CIP project maintains 4.4 and 4.19. Feel free to use our kernels, and feel free to join the project.

@molly0xfff Copyright was meant to "promote useful arts". Original copyright (14 years or so) may have done that, current one blocks innovation if anything. If it blocks language model developement, it is one more reason to fix the copyright.

@mjg59 @resuna "Infrared" is huge part of spectrum. There will be difference between near infrared and thermal infrared.

"If it's max, not a pax". It looks like 737MAX saga is continuing, this time it is not computers. It looks like door flew of a plane at 14000 feet, vas-av has a good video on youtube.

@drewdevault Yep, that's ugly. Would like to see that one fixed. (But if you can open /proc/self... you can usually also go to the original file and open that; and that's why it survived for so long).

@jiska First, thanks for nice talk at 37c3. I don't have an iPhone, but catching IMSI catchers is cool. OTOH it is also too late -- by the time you analyze your logs, IMSI catcher already has your position logged.

Early gsm phones (like Nokia 5110) had service menus with capabilities such as 'lock to specific cell tower' which could be used to prevent that -- just lock your phone to "known good" cells. Have you seen similar functionality in modern modems?

@drewdevault NixOS may not be for you, but I believe it has its uses. Would not use that emoticon...

@martijnbraam @linmob I never seen machine with ARM SBBR. Yes, that's a step in right direction, I wish PinePhone (etc) would be using that. (And it would be nice to have something similar for R-V, preferably without complexity of ACPI.)

@martijnbraam @linmob Not sure, and have not met those uefi-only laptops, fortuantely. But I'm sure they for example power down when battery goes low? Don't require vendor-patched u-boot of particular version to init their DRAM? Can charge battery without vendor-patched Linux kernel successfully booted? I really wish there was standard arm64 platform (and standard risc-v platform).

@thatprivacyguy One possible solution would be to start a local proxy and make chromium use that...

@martijnbraam @linmob While x86 hardware can be pain, it usually does not have problem booting bootloaders or charging its batteries. I expect RISC-V to be improvement over x86 CPUs, and it would be cool to have some kind of next-generation platform. We should not really need 100 drivers for RTC.
