For me this has an appearance of a scam, and it also reflects a recent outbursts such as e.g. this one from Microsoft:

Not pointing out to Microsoft here in particular. It was just so arrogant, obnoxious and ignorant take from Mustafa Suleyman that it carved to my brain forever.
IT giants have put way way way too huge stakes on top of the AI game board. There's also a strong motivation to compound "Open Source" and "AI" as interchangeable concepts to justify evil corporate tactics. Right from the get go OpenAI picked up a name, which misleads by implying "openness" (with no anchor to anything actually open).
Standards share no resemblance to this eye roll trick. I read them a lot as part of my work (the most recent was DWARF4 spec few weeks ago), and I know what a standard should look like, if anything.
This is not an opinion about AI way or another but I recognize a fake standard 100% when I see one, and this is as fake as it can ever get. It could be at worst interpreted as an attack against open source and free software governance, and the values that we believe in.

@kev nice collection bro! i became wrist watch owner year ago (g-shock model with bluetooth) after over 20 years break because i had this dilemma:
1. I absolutely hate all smartphones in existence.
2. All these activation schemes enforce me to have one.
So I have my iPhone SE mostly in the drawer and from my wrist watch I see if there is new SMS and stuff I generally want to see :-)

Some of this years sponsors for Mindtrek, a conference at my home town :--) Never visited tho so not that much of idea, and I guess it is
more open source for business or something like that. Even in more hacking focused conferences it is nearly impossible to keep focus for full 45 minute presentation. Listening people is boring as hell.
Still I've heard it is pretty good place for like entrepreneur/business type of people, and it is in my home town so I guess I endorse and recommend it :-)

jarkkoCasio. The battery has lasted 1.2 years so far, syncs the timezone automatically when country changes via bluetooth, shows arrived messages and calls, has a step counter and other rudimentary sporty features.
Have been considering while buying sports watch from Suunto like for having navigation when hiking in the woods but this really has delivered incredibly well considering how archaic it is :-)
