A US businessman with 171 million social media followers is trying to convince the American public, that the law which contains the aid to Ukraine will allow foreigners to vote in US elections.

X is the misinformation medium.

@briankrebs you can subscribe to LKML and then you'll no longer have that problem. ;)

(Unless, of course, something breaks on our end.)

@liw @neil I know what you're saying, but the alternatives only seem more appealing because they are either controlled by a single entity (WhatsApp, Discord), or they are not yet popular enough to attract spammers' attention (Matrix, ActivityPub). All the extra hoops for domain authenticated email are a necessary evil in response to abuse and liability.

@isotopp so are most other specs that have been around for the past 40 years. This is why we need major language libraries to actually do the right thing so everyone doesn't have to write their own semi-broken workarounds.

Why is python's email module *so bad* at creating valid headers?

90% of the bugs reported against the module are for some kind of header parsing or writing problem.

@chrissicool a laudable practice, but won't save you in the case I described (arrow-up too far by accident and execute it again when you meant to invoke some other command from history).

Is there a fancy German word for when you find out that a fancy foreign word is actually pretty blah in its original language? Like, "Bossa Nova" just literally means "New Wave," "hors d'oeuvre" means "side project" and "wanderlust" just means "in the mood for some walking."

True story: I never issue "reboot" from the CLI because I once arrow-keyed up too far and rebooted a critical system into an unusable state.

So, if you look at my history, it's always "sleep 5 && reboot" to allow for a frantic "oh sh*t, Ctrl-C!" at the last moment.

If you're wondering why I followed you, even though we've never interacted and seemingly have nothing in common, that's probably because I'm trying to add diversity to my feed of aging nerdy white guys.

(Edited to add: and because you posted something cool, of course. The above statement is not the exclusive guiding principle. :))

Fantastic, concise summary from @monsieuricon on a bit of history about Git and kernel projects and why they continue to use mailing list workflows over a centralized forge. https://lore.kernel.org/git/20240201-primitive-aardwark-of-contentment-aaabb9@lemur/

Dudes will literally lie to investors, get fined by the SEC, dig pointless tunnels, blow up rockets, waste $44b on a dying social media platform, embrace anti semitism, alienate their kids and start a blood feud with Disney instead of going to therapy

@kalt Hmm... Nothing matches "tuf", "rsl" or "reference state log" in the archives. Was it under a different name?
